Guelph, ON – June 1st, 2012 – Emcara Gas Development Inc. today launched the innovative Cobra Pressure Relief Device for the Compressed Natural Gas industry. The Cobra PRD is a first-of-its-kind, designed with a thermally activated long trigger that covers tanks that range from 5’ to 9’ long. The Cobra PRD is certified to PRD-1 standards.

The long trigger is a patent protect technology that was the developed by Emcara’s President Erick Girouard.

"I recognized that the CNG industry was growing and evolving. Tanks and configurations were growing in size and so to was the demand for increased safety protection. Our long trigger PRD offers increased safety features, while in most instances reduces the overall cost to the consumer," said Erick Girouard, President of Emcara Gas Development Inc.

The Cobra PRD is available for purchase, please contact the Emcara team for more information.

Guelph, ON – June 1st, 2012 – Emcara Gas Development Inc. today announced their new product, the Badger, which is a Balanced Actuator Valve. The Badger is a complementary product to Emcara’s patented long trigger PRD’s, as it increase the flow rate to ~450 SCFM. The increased flow rate reduces the time it takes to vent down a tank(s).

"The Badger aligns with our mission statement at Emcara; by providing products and solutions that not only increases safety on alternative fuel tanks, but it also reduce costs for our customers. The Badger is quickly becoming a necessity on very large tanks and storage systems, which require a quicker flow rate," said Erick Girouard, President of Emcara Gas Development Inc.

Vent Caps & Keeping Water Out of CNG Systems

Guelph, ON – May 2nd, 2016 – Emcara Gas Development Inc. today announced the major benefits of using their Garter Vent Caps on CNG systems.  The Garter Vent Cap was designed to keep outside water and other foreign matters out of the system.  It has been well documented that allowing outside water and other foreign matter into a system can cause major damages that may be detrimental to the entire system, including damage to any Pressure Relief Devices (PRDs) on the market as stated in a recent Technology Bulletin by NGV America
(http://ngvamerica.org/pdfs/Technology%20Bulletin_ColdWeatherPRD.pdf).

It is critical to keep the system sealed from outside materials and the Garter Vent Cap allows for a robust line of defence.  The Garter provides a strong seal between itself and the vent line, ensuring that water and other materials do not enter the system, while at the same time staying protected from UV light deterioration, pressure sprays, and other actions that have caused plastic or other caps to fly off or become damaged.

The Garter Vent Cap also possesses a unique poppet action that allows gas to escape and then quickly re-seals itself.  It is not unusual for a small amount of gas to build up in the line, the Garter allows for such permutation while still protecting the system from outside materials. The Garter “releases” between 5 to 10 psi of pressure.  This allows integrators to do away with weep holes, which is another possible area for water to enter the system.

Emcara Releases its New 5,000 psi Pressure Relief Device for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), the Viper PRD

Guelph, ON – June 28th, 2016 – Emcara Gas Development Inc. today announced their new 5,000psi Viper PRD.  The Viper PRD continues to have the unique, patent long-trigger technology that allows for full protection coverage of a tank or a bank of tanks in a CNG system of any size.  The unique technology is outlined on the Emcara website; http://emcara.com/About-Us.aspx.

In addition to the existing benefits of the technology, many upgrades were made that address concerns of the protection of CNG systems in the industry.  The new PRD is designed for systems that have a working pressure of 5,000psi.  The Viper PRD also has the added benefit of a higher flow rate when venting in the case of a fire.  This allows gas to escape at a faster and more efficient manner, as it is extremely important to get the gas out as quickly as possible avoiding any possibility of a tank rupture. The internal mechanism utilized in this model of PRD is extremely robust, which increases its performance over the toughest of road conditions, this also includes enhanced corrosion protection.

The Viper PRD trigger can range from 4’ to 45’ in length, which allows for cost saving opportunities over other multiple PRD systems.  The trigger line also allows for detection of smaller fires over the length of the line.  Localized fires as small as 5” can now be detected in some conditions. The Viper PRD is fully certified ANSI/CSA PRD1.2013* and is ready for use in the market.

*ANSI/CSA PRD1.2013 currently offers only a 3,600 psi certification
